Liverpool’s hopes of signing Naby Keita this transfer window have been broken as RB Leipzig have confirmed Keita will be staying at the club until July.
The reds were looking to sign the Guinean early this window after the departure of Coutinho. Both sides opened discussion about a possibly early transfer but no deal was able to come to fruition.
Leipzig released a statement saying “Naby Keita will remain an RB Leipzig player until 30th June 2018. We wish to put the speculation about a January move to LFC to bed.
Director of Sports for Leipzig, Ralf Ragnick also said in a statement “We won’t allow LFC to sign him early, even though they have shown renewed interest to bring him in during this transfer window.”
Keita remains a pivotal member of Leipzig’s team as they look to qualify for the Champions League next season. Keita scored the opening goal against Schalke 04 last night as they beat the German side 3-1 at Home.
With the speculation put to bed, Liverpool fans can expect to see Naby Keita in a Liverpool shirt in July when he officially joins the club.
